Introducing Custom Dashboard

Ajay Bhat - Aug 08, 2017 - Metrics

In this post, Tirupathi Rao Podugu discusses Custom Dashboards, a way to combine standard reports and custom reports into a new dashboard customized for the user.

Kony MobileFabric 7.3 comes with the ability to create a Custom Dashboard that allows business and operations users to display several reports in a single, integrated view. A dashboard can include reports, input controls for choosing the data displayed in one or more frames, and custom frames that point to URLs for other content such as images and web pages from external websites.

Kony MobileFabric already had a pre-packaged standard analytics dashboard, but the custom dashboard provides the user the ability to create dashboards with data tailored for their usecases.

Custom Dashboard is available for Kony Cloud business users and admins from the MobileFabric console in the "Reports" section.

Custom Dashboard can be built from any of the reports including standard reports  and custom reports  to which the user has access. For example, a dashboard showing account transactions, check deposit usage along with active users and application errors can provide information on both application-specific metrics available via custom metrics and reports with error information available on standard reports. The reports existing in the account will get populated in the Existing Content panel. The user can add a standard report or custom report by dragging it from Existing Content panel on to  the dashboard canvas.

For this blog post, we consider two custom reports.

  1. Sessions per user report which gives the session count for each user in a country for an app.
  2. Form Duration for App gives the information about total amount of time spent in each form for an application

These two reports have the date input control in common. Drag the reports into the canvas to add them to the dashboard. The Filters of the added reports will appear in the Filter panel.  Drag the filters into the canvas in order to add them to dashboard. Input controls which are common to both the reports can be mapped using filter Mapping .

As mentioned earlier, standard reports can also be included in the dashboard. Let us drag Active users and New users reports including the input controls.

Every report which is added to the canvas is called a Dashlet. Every Dashlet has its own property like dashlet name, height & width (scale to fit) and other configurable properties.

Apart from the reports, custom content which is available in New Content panel (text, web page and images) can also be added to the dashboard. By combining different types of related content, one can create appealing, data-rich dashboards.

Custom Dashboard can be saved with a name and description to enable quick access at a later point of time. Visibility level of the dashboard could also be modified to allow dashboard to be shared with others in the account or be private and visible only to the person who has built the dashboard.
