iPhone X Support

Apple's new Flagship Device, iPhone X is now in the Market.

Following our last announcement, we have completed our analysis of the new Apple device and we are ready to ensure our customer Apps are compatible.

Here are a few important things you need to know about supporting iPhone X:

iPhone X comes with a new screen resolution (5.8” display with a resolution of 1125×2436). The new screen resolution can be supported by your applications by ensuring you package the correct Splash Screen (@3X) image along with your iOS applications.

The updated design of iPhone X comes with an edge to edge display with rounded corners and a notch at the top with the toolbar. Many of the existing applications on portrait mode will adapt to the new design without any changes. However, we do anticipate a few changes in certain widgets and in the landscape orientation. To ensure your application is compatible with the new design in both the orientations, Kony will release an iPhone X compatible release on all supported versions of Kony Visualizer over the next few days.

iPhone X replaces TouchID with a new biometric authentication FaceID. The Kony local authentication API uses the standard iOS framework and this ensures our existing users do not have to make any API changes to support the FaceID authentication. The existing APIs to authenticate with TouchID will continue to work for FaceID. However, while the APIs continue to work, we realize that our customers may be using custom images to trigger TouchID and custom messages as part of the TouchID API. In this case, applications would need to check the device type and display the image & message accordingly or use a generic authentication message. Please ensure your applications are updated to reflect the same.

Kony has already released all the new iOS 11 APIs as Native Function APIs with Kony Visualizer V8. These include the APIs supported by iPhone X.

Kony has validated the iPhone X compatibility using the iPhone X Simulator with XCode 9. We will complete our final validation of the changes with the physical devices as soon as it is available.

Here is the tentative release plan for the iPhone X compatibility plugins update -

As always, Kony is committed that our apps follow the best practices and stay updated. Stay tuned for the latest announcements and updates on our community portal & basecamp.
